Soeurng's Group's story

Soeurng, 43, is married and a rural farmer from Ponhea Krek district of Kampong Cham Province,Cambodia. She has one child who currently works as a paid-worker at a factory. To make a living, Soeurng cultivates rice on two hectares of land with the support of her husband who use his spare time to earn extra income by working for others for a fee. The current business earns her about 20,400 KHR per day.

Now, Soeurng leads a microloan group consisting of four female members. Her past loans, which she completely repaid, have supported her business in a gradual manner and she has been able to buy some household items for her family including a cabinet, table, TV, etc. Now, Soeurng and one of her co-borrowers are seeking 1,400,000 KHR each, and the two other group members are seeking 1,000,000 KHR each. As the group leader, Soeurng will use her loan portion to buy fertilizer and rice seed and to pay for pumping water for her rice. She hopes to gain a larger yield and to earn more income to maintain her living.
