Soledad Del Valle (Cuenca) Group's story

The communal bank “Soledad del Valle” is made up of 6 women and one man who live in the surrounding areas of the Valle parish in Cuenca, a place that is surrounded by green fields and large mountains, with old and modern architecture. Its people are very warm, friendly and gentle. They struggle every day for the wellbeing of their families. They work in the same various activities that allow them to have economic independence. They still maintain the culture and traditions of their people.

One of the members of this group is Mariana. She is a new member who is entering into the communal bank “Soledad del Valle,” at the invitation of a neighbor. She is 26 years old and is a single mother of two children who are 4 and 2 years old. They live in their own house. Mariana works selling clothing and footwear. She has performed this activity for a year. She sells her merchandise throughout the city from Tuesday to Sunday without a fixed schedule. In her house she works breeding and selling chickens. These activities allow her to pay the household expenses.

She is going to invest her loan in the purchase of clothing in order to stock up her merchandise.

Her dream is to travel to the United States.
