Wepesi Group's story

Jenifer is a member of Wepesi Group in Kakamega South District. She is pictured among 11 One Acre Fund farmers, 7 women and 4 men. Jenifer is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Jenifer first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Jenifer joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and access the best input prices.

Jenifer reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 4 1/2 bags of maize per acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 9 1/2 bags per acre! She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and repair her home. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jenifer’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5.5 acres of land.
