Vanisha's Group's story

Vanisha's group is comprised of 5 hard working women. Vanisha is 20 years old and lives in the town of Iganga in the Iganga region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past 2 years, Vanisha has been working hard to manage her drug shop, which sells tablets.

To help expand her business, Vanisha has requested a loan of 200000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more drugs for sell, and will help Vanisha to generate greater profits and expand her business up to the wholesale level. Vanisha hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a house.

Vanisha is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
