A loan of $475 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Jua Kali Group's story

Jentrix is a member of Jua Kali Group in Chwele District. She is pictured with 12 One Acre Fund farmers, six women and six men. Jentrix is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for half an acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Jentrix joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012 season, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Jentrix joined One Acre Fund so that she could grow enough food for the family and gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Jentrix reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 10 bags of maize per 1 acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 19 bags per 1 acre! She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to save for the future and buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jentrix’s group members will take input loans of half an acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
