A loan of $575 helped to buy cows to fatten and sell.

Benon's story

Benon is 51 years old and born in Kajumbajumba, Kyafoora, in rural Rukungiri.

Benon is a farmer carrying out cattle rearing. This is with the aim of earning more income through sell of milk and bulls.

However, Benon found it hard to maintain his business of cattle rearing with his own limited income. He realised that he always had to forcefully sell one or two cows before their due time in order to maintain the farm and buy veterinary drugs.

In 2010 he decided to join a financial lending institution for financial assistance, and later found out that UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI)had the fairest and affordable rates.Benon is now able to maintain his farm without selling his cows before they are mature enough and also get enough milk from the cows. This is a result of the financial help got from UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI), especially the Rukungiri Branch.

He is also able to educate his seven children, who are all now attending school at different education levels. He can, also, cater for the household needs, hence improving on the family’s standard of living and livelihood. He can now do that with ease without affecting his business.

Benon is thankful to UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) because their services of reaching the rural poor have changed lives of many.
