A loan of $1,200 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.


Uzima Group's story

Moris’s group has 19 farmers and is located in Kakamega South District. Moris is pictured on the right of Uzima Group with his hand raised. Moris is pictured amongst the four men and fifteen women of his group. He will receive loans enabling him to plant 1/2 an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize. Moris joined One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains season and is now enrolling in the 2013 Long Rains season. Moris joined One Acre Fund to grow enough food for the family and to use his increased profits to send his children to school.


Moris described his harvest as good last year, but he believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Moris’s group members will receive agricultural loans to farm 1/2 acre each. In total, this group will receive agricultural loans for use on 9 and 1/2 acres of land.
