Betty is a single mother of six children, and all her children go to school. She also takes care of additional family members. She has a business of selling used shoes and has been in this business for four years. She has applied for a loan of Uganda shillings (UGX) from MCDTSACCO to buy more bales of used shoes. She works at the market, works seven days out of every week, and sells on a retail basis only. Her major business challenges include seasonality and thieves. She aspires to become a wholesaler and also to start importing used shoes. She resides in her own house, and the family has no access to electricity or piped water. Her monthly expenses include school fees and feeding the family.
