Wakulima Mayiakalo Group's story

Janeveva is a member of Wakulima Mayiakalo Group in Kakamega South District. She is pictured with 13 One Acre Fund farmers, eight women and five men. Janeveva is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for a half acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation.

Janeveva joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2010 and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Janeveva joined One Acre Fund so that she could use increased profits to send her children to school and gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Janeveva was only able to harvest seven bags of maize per acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 20 bags per acre!

She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and save for the future. Jeneveva’s group members will each receive input loans of a half acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 6 1/2 acres of maize and sorghum.
