A loan of $950 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.


Twende Kazi Group's story

Twende Kazi Group is located in Kakamega South District. It is a group of 11 women and 4 men led by Nicodemus pictured on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Nicodemus joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2009 season, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Nicodemus joined One Acre Fund so that he could access the best input prices and to improve his farming techniques with One Acre Fund methods.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Nicodemus was only able to harvest 25 bags of maize per acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012 season, he was able to harvest 35 bags per acre! He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and repair his home. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Nicodemus’s group will receive 7 1/2 acres worth of inputs on credit.
