A loan of $125 helped a member to build a decent latrine.

Somaly's Group's story

A resident from the Kandal Stoeng district in the Kandal province, Somaly is 33 years old and married. She is blessed with three children who are still in school. To support the daily cost of living, she grows rice whereas her husband works at a construction site. Through her current business, Somaly is able to earn nearly $2.50 per day. This is the first loan for Somaly with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. Somaly is the leader of a group consisting of two other members. For the sake of her family's hygienic practices, Somaly has decided to take out a loan with her co-borrowers to buy a latrine. She and her co-borrowers are seeking 160,000 KHR each. As a group leader, Somaly will use her loan portion to build a decent latrine for her family. She hopes to own a latrine for her family's convenience and good sanitary practices.
