Las Del Saber (Cuenca) Group's story

"Las de Saber" is a communal bank which is formed of 9 women who work in different employment, and to contribute to the finances of their homes they work on the land. They all have one objective in common, which is to help their families to get ahead. They are kind, courteous and responsible women, who still maintain the culture and traditions of their villages. They live in the parish of Tarqui in Cuenca, an area which has large plains and beautiful countryside. Its architecture is a mixture of the modern and the ancient.

One of the members of this group is Victoria. She has been part of the communal bank for 2 years and in this time she has managed to form close bonds of friendship with her colleagues. She is 28 years old, and she has married and in her marriage she has conceived 4 children aged 10, 8, 6 and 1. Her first three children are studying in a small school in the area. Her husband works as a day labourer. They do not have their own home, so they live in an estate where they work.

Victoria works looking after the home and rearing and selling guinea pigs and hens. She has also worked on the estate where she lives for 5 years. There she works Sunday to Sunday without a fixed schedule.

She is going to invest her new loan in the purchase of hens, guinea pigs and animal feed. Her dream is to have her own home, and more hens so that she can work in the business of selling eggs.

In this group: Bertha Orfelia, Hilda Josefina, Victoria Elisa, Teresita De Jesús, María Digna, Sandra Noemi, Rosa Sabina, María Agustina, Cisne Mariela
