A loan of $700 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Jitegemee Group's story

Christine is a member of the Jitegemee Group in Kakamega South District. She is pictured with 11 One Acre Fund farmers, 7 women and 4 men. Christine is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Christine first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2009 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Christine described her harvest as good last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Christine’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 1/2 acres of land.
