A loan of $1,150 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet and sorghum.

Pukers Group's story

Pukers is a group of 20 farmers in the Kakamega South District of Kenya who are represented by Francis, pictured on the right of the photo with his hand raised. The group has twelve women and six men.

With Francis' loan, he will receive the necessary materials to plant half an acre of maize, millet and sorghum. Francis joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains season of 2007, and is now enrolling in the 2013 Long Rains season. He became a member of the fund so that he could gain access to hybrid seeds and fertilizers and use the increased profits for his children's education.

Francis described his harvest as very good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He hopes that his profits can be used to send his children to school and to save for the future. Francis' group members will each receive input loans for half an acre of farming. In total they will receive materials for nine acres of maize and sorghum.
