Shianda Group's story

Shianda Group is located in Kakamega South District. It is a group of 10 women and 2 men led by Catherine pictured on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum cultivation. Catherine first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Catherine joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for her family and to use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Catherine described her harvest as very good last year, but believes she can have an even better one this year. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and assist the needy. Catherine’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 6 acres of maize, millet and sorghum.
