Ebeneza Group's story

Margaret’s group has 13 farmers and is located in Kakamega South District. Margaret is pictured on the right of Ebeneza Group with her hand raised. She is pictured among the four men and nine women of her group. She will receive a loan enabling her to plant 1/2 an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize. Margaret first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2010 Long Rains season and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Margaret joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and to use increased profits to send her children to school.

Margaret reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about one bag of maize per 1/2 acre, but, with her One Acre Fund loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested seven bags per 1/2 acre. She plans to use future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and to save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive 1/2 an acre of agricultural supplies on credit. Margaret’s group will receive 6.5 acres worth of supplies on credit.
