Chea's Group's story

Chea, 42, is a widowed mother of three children, one of whom is still in school. She is a resident of Battambang province. She is employed and also grows rice in order to support her family as a single mother. She has been growing rice for ten years, and is able to earn up to 20,300 KHR per day. Her main challenge is the low crop yield due to pests. Hence, she has formed a group of three to apply for a new loan. She is a three-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) who has repaid her last loan with VisionFund already. She feels so confident that she can uplift her living conditions gradually after the successful past loan. Now, she and one of her co-borrowers are seeking a loan of 1,400,000 KHR each while the remaining member is requesting 1,000,000 KHR. For Chea, she will use her portion of the loan to buy fertilizer and pesticide, and to pay the plowing fee. She hopes that this crop will return her a good yield so she can earn more income to maintain her standard of living.
