A loan of $1,525 helped a member to buy potash and pesticide and to pay a plowing fee.

Soeng's Group's story

As one breadwinner in a family consisting of three children, Soeng, age 43, is a rice farmer. She does a rice cropping business on two hectares of farmland, with support from her husband, as their primary source of income. It is a business that she has been with for 10 years. For Soeng, this is her sixth loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She is in a group of five members applying for a new loan. Her co-borrowers are on their first to fourth cycles with VisionFund. Soeng has managed her past loans wisely to upgrade her standard of living at a good pace. Now, the total requested loan amount for her group is 6,000,000 riels (KHR). Soeng will use her loan portion of 1,400,000 KHR to buy potash and pesticide and to pay the plowing fee for her farmland. She hopes to replant her rice on time and get a high yield in order to maintain her living situation.
