Living in Battambang Province where rice farming is the common business, Srey is 45 years old and has three schoolchildren out of six kids in total. She manages one hectare of rice cultivation and another hectare of sesame planting, which she has been with for more than 14 years. Her husband is a house builder who has used his spare time to support his wife's business as well.
Having never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before, she is now applying for her first loan, as she is in need of working capital for her crops. Her requested loan amount is 3,500,000 KHR in order to buy fertilizer and to pay a plowing fee for her farm. Additionally, she will use a portion of it to buy necessary materials to support her husband. She hopes to grow both of her crops healthily and make more profit to support her living as well as her kids’ education.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
