A loan of $200 helped to buy an oven.

Gladys Belen's story

Thirty-one year old Gladys lives in the city of Imperial with her young son, whom she loves and who is her main reason for living. Gladys is a very friendly, hard-working and enthusiastic person, who puts all her strength into helping her son prosper. She must be both mother and father to him. Thanks to the strength and support of her family, Gladys was able to study pharmacy and in her spare time she enjoys playing volleyball. On occasion she prepares a delicious "caucau" (a type of stew) to share with the family.

With her own initiative and with determination and dedication, Gladys works in a pharmacy in the city. Additionally she has a small business selling cakes. She works every day, from early in the morning, for around ten hours. She likes her work and thinks it is going well because of the flavours in the cakes and because of the friendly service she provides to her customers.

Gladys is very grateful to the Kiva lenders as thanks to their help she will be able to buy a small oven. She will use this to prepare better cakes and so she can continue to work and put in a lot of effort to achieve her dream of studying and specialising in medicine.
