A loan of $725 helped to buy fertilizer and animal feed.

Luz Margarita's story

Luz has been a member of the communal bank 14 de Agosto for two years, during which time she has formed good friendships with the other members.
She lives near the parish of Zhidmad, located in Cuenca, which is surrounded by spectacular landscapes formed by the surrounding mountains. Residents of this area mainly work raising animals, farming, or working in the nearby city.

Luz is 35 years old. She lives in a civil marriage, from which she has five children ages 17, 13, 10, 8, and 6 years old. Two of her children are studying in high school and three study in their local elementary school. Luz's husband works in construction and they own their own house.

Luz makes a living raising cattle, chickens, sheep, and guinea pigs. She farms on her own land and feeds her family from this produce. Luz also sells any excess produce she grows and on occasion works as a housekeeper.

She will invest this loan to buy fertilizers for her land and feed for her animals.

Her dream is that one day her children will become professionals.
