Mbukwe Group's story

Johnstone is a member of Mbukwe Group in Kakamega South District. He is pictured with 19 One Acre Fund farmers, 12 women and 7 men. Johnstone is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Johnstone first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2010 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Johnstone joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and access inputs on time.

Johnstone described his harvest as excellent last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to repair his home and perhaps invest in another business. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Johnstone’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 9.5 acres of land.
