A loan of $650 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Sisi Kwa Sisi Group's story

Susan’s group has 10 farmers and is located in Kakamega South District. Susan is pictured on the right of Sisi Kwa Sisi Group with her hand raised. Susan is pictured amongst the one man and nine women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet and maize. Susan first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2010 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Susan joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and access the best input prices.

Susan described her harvest as poor last year, but believes she can have an even better one this year. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Susan’s group will receive 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
