Ebuhanza Group's story

Jared is a member of Ebuhanza Group in Kakamega South District. He is pictured with 13 One Acre Fund farmers, 9 women and 4 men. Jared is standing on the right with his hand raised. He is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Jared first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Jared joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and use the increased profits to send his children to school.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Jared was only able to harvest 8 bags of maize per 1 ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains, he was able to harvest 12 bags per 1 ½ acre. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to repair his home and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jared’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6.5 acres of land.
