Tumaini Group's story

Linet is a member of Tumaini Group in Kakamega South District. She is pictured with 12 One Acre Fund farmers, 10 women and 2 men. Linet is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Linet first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Linet joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and to use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Linet reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 3 bags of maize per 3/4 acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during the 2012 Long Rains, she harvested 12 bags per 3/4 acre. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and repair her home. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Linet’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6 acres of land.
