Bondeni Group

A loan of $900 helped a member to buy enough maize and sorghum seed and fertilizer to farm one-half acre.

Bondeni Group's story

Seen on the right with her hand raised, Rosemary is the representative for Bondeni, a group of fourteen farmers in Kakamega South District. The group is comprised of twelve women and two men. With 77,000 KES from One Acre Fund these farmers will each receive on credit enough maize and sorghum seed and fertilizer to farm one-half acre. In total, seven acres will be farmed through the One Acre Fund.

Rosemary joined the One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2011 season so she could grow enough food for her family and use her increased profits to send her children to school. Prior to joining the fund, she was only able to harvest six bags of maize per acre, but after joining the One Acre Fund during Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest twelve bags.

Rosemary is now enrolling in Long Rains 2013. Her ambition is to use her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season to send her children to school and help her save for the future.
