A loan of $1,500 helped to buy supplies for her internet cafe.

Ayelen's story

This young woman, Ayelen, is single and is a university student. One of her sisters is her dependent, since she is in charge of her; her sister is about to complete her last year of high school.

Ayelen's economic activity is having an internet cafe. She has fourteen computers, and also a photocopying service; she has two photocopy machines. Her cafe is located between two main streets in the city. Her sisters help her; one of them is a permanent staff member, and the other helps out sometimes, as do her mother and brother. She carries out this service during the entire year, and business increases during the school year.

Ayelen is a university student who has five years experience in her field, keeping a regular record of her incomes and expenses for her business. She knows a lot about the market in which she sells.

She generally supplies her store through wholesalers, who drop the items off to her store, like sheets of paper and toners. She has a good degree of satisfaction with this provision of supplies.

Her market includes the surrounding companies on her block, those that are located within the same building, and also the people that are walking on the street; there are several high schools close by.

The competition she has is normal for being situated in the center of the city. She keeps her prices stable throughout the entire year.
