Nancy's story

Nancy is 34 years old and married to Teofilo with whom she has 3 children: Morelia, age 16, Aymer, age 8, and Cristian, age 4. They live in a rented house located in a rural district.

Like all rural mothers, Nancy has to ration her time between attending to her children and to her farming. Nancy is a sweet mother but also of a persistent character.

With great care, she cultivates her peas, plus the “Unica” variety of potatoes, and gladiolas. “Every 4 months,” Nancy mentions, “I sow 2 sacks of pea seeds, from which I harvest 30 sacks.” All of her production she sells in Tarma's wholesale market.

She reports that from the sale of her gladiolas, she obtains additional income, due to their great demand in the cities of Huancayo, Lima, and La Merced. The sale of the gladiolas is most profitable in the months of May and November.

Nancy needs to fertilize some lands, and also, to sow green pea and corn seeds. For this she is requesting your help. This is her 9th loan through MFP, and she promises to be punctual in making her payments. Nancy's communal bank is called “The Hummingbirds of Patay,” and Nancy says she likes the way it works, in particular the educational talks.

With the 3,000 sols she solicits, she will be able to purchase 4 sacks of green pea seeds, plus various bags of fertilizers.
