Savalu Group's story

Lydia is a member of the Savalu Group in the Kakamega South District. She is pictured with 31 One Acre Fund farmers - 17 women and 14 men. Lydia is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Lydia is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and use increased profits to send her children to school

Lydia managed to harvest 16 bags of maize on 1 acre of land last year. As a One Acre Fund farmer, she hopes to harvest even more! She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to invest in buying a cow and save for the future.

Lydia’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 15.5 acres of maize, millet, and sorghum.
