Light Group's story

Light is a group of eleven farmers from the Kakamega South District represented by John. The group has seven women and four men. John can be seen on the right side of the photo, raising his hand.

Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum. John joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. He joined One Acre Fund so that he could grow enough food for the family and access the good farming techniques training from One Acre Fund.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, John was only able to harvest ½ a bag of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund, he was able to harvest 4 bags per ½ acre.

He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and save for the future.

John’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, the group will receive inputs for 5.5 acres of maize and sorghum.
