Balina Group's story

Hellen’s group has 12 farmers and is located in Kakamega South District. Hellen is pictured on the right of Balina Group with her hand raised. Hellen is pictured amongst the 3 men and 9 women of her group. She will receive input loans capable of planting ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize. Hellen first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains season and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Hellen joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and access to the best input prices.

Hellen described her harvest as excellent last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and invest in cows. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Hellen’s group will receive 6 acres worth of inputs on credit.
