Bidii Group's story

Bidii is a group of 10 farmers in the Kakamega South district represented by Beatrice. The group has nine women and one man. Beatrice is on the right side of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit, consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum.

Beatrice joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains in 2008, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. She joined One Acre Fund so that she could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and learn good farming techniques. Prior to joining, Beatrice was only able to harvest three bags of maize per acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest six bags per acre. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and save for the future. Beatrice’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season.

In total, they will receive inputs for five acres of maize, millet and sorghum.
