A loan of $625 helped a member to buy ingredients for the preparation of incense.

Nietaton Group's story

The four members of the group NIETATON live in extended traditional families in the Hamdallaye district of San, circle of SAN, region of Segou (4th administrative region of Mali). They average 42 years of age and three children each, and they know one another as neighbors and through ties of marriage and kinship. They sell miscellaneous merchandise and cosmetic products.

To bolster their working capital, the group members joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso. This is their 13th group loan.

Mrs. Kadia (standing first from the left and wearing a white scarf) specializes in the sale of cosmetic products. She plans to use her loan to buy 2 kg of magnokisseni, ½ kg of djekalani and over 24 bottles of perfume to prepare incense. She mixes up the ingredients and after a week or so, she pours the mixture into bottles. She buys her supplies from wholesalers in SAN, and she conducts her sales at retail from her home and in office buildings, for cash or credit, to a clientele consisting of both men and women.

With this loan, Mrs. Kadia expects to earn an average monthly profit of 20,000 FCFA, which she will use to reinvest in her activity and to cover household expenses.
