A loan of $1,025 helped a member to buy paddy rice.

Dounkafa Group's story

Married and all living in extended, traditional families, the 5 women of the Dounkafa group have an average age of 34 and, on average, 4 children. They all live in the N°1 district of Tominian, in the Ségou region (4th administrative region of Mali) and got to know each other via neighbourly and family relationships. They have different businesses. The members of the Dounkafa group decided to join Soro Yiriwaso in order to increase their business and are on their 6th group loan.

Fanta (the woman standing on the left and wearing a white scarf around her neck in the picture) is a large seller of cereals, more specifically of rice, in the N°1 district and the surrounding area. She plans to use her loan to buy 10 bags of paddy rice, at 10 000 francs per bag, and then dehusk it. She gets her supplies at the San market fair and makes her sales door-to-door in her district, for cash and occasionally credit, to a retail clientèle made up of men and women. Thanks to this loan, Fanta hopes to make an average monthly profit of 25 000 francs, which will be reinvested in her business and used to take care of the households needs.
