A loan of $900 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet and sorghum.

Ikhonye Group's story

Jaffery’s group has 14 farmers and is located in Kakamega South District. Jaffery is pictured on the right of Ikhonye Group with his hand raised. Jaffery is pictured amongst the six men and eight women of his group. He will receive input loans allowing him to plant ½ an acre with sorghum, millet and maize. Jaffery joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Jaffery joined One Acre Fund so that he could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and grow enough food for the family.

Jaffery described his harvest as good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans on using future profits from the harvest to repair his home and save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Jaffery’s group will receive 7 acres worth of inputs on credit.
