Jane's story

Jane lives in the Changamwe area of Coast Province, Kenya. She is married and has six children, five of whom are in school. For the past 5 years, Jane has owned and run a food café, mainly selling cooked food. She also earns additional income from a water vending shop. Jane's spouse is employed and provides some income for the family.

Jane learned about Milango through a friend. She joined with the aim of accessing credit to improve her business operations. Jane's main challenges are bad debts and high rental fees. Jane is applying for a loan of 83,450 Kenya shillings to buy retail and food stock of rice, cereals, wheat flour, cooking oil, etc. Jane will use the extra income from the loan for savings, to improve her family's living standards and to pay school fees for her children. She looks forward to owning/opening other cafes in the area.
