A loan of $1,000 helped to add retail and food stock, e.g., rice, cereals, wheat flour, cooking oil, etc.

Fatuma's story

Fatuma lives in Likoni area of Coast Province, Kenya. She is married and has three school-going children. She owns a food café, a business which has been running for 11 years. The café mainly sells cooked food. She also earns some income from the rental houses owned by the family. The area has a high population, most of whom work in the Island and return to the mainland in the evenings and find little time to prepare meals.

Fatuma learnt about Milango through advertisements, and she joined with the aim of accessing credit to improve her business operations. Her main challenges are price fluctuations.

Fatuma is applying for a loan of 85,900 Kenya shillings (KES) to add retail and food stock, e.g., rice, cereals, wheat flour, cooking oil, etc. The extra income from the loan will be added to her savings to improve on the living standard of her family and pay school fees for her children. She looks forward to owning/opening other cafes in the area.
