St. Peters Group's story

Jane is a member of St. Peters Group in Kakamega South District. She is pictured with 19 One Acre Fund farmers:18 women and 1 man. Jane is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Jane first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains, and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Jane joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seeds and fertilizer and use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Jane reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about 1/2 bag of maize per ½ acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 8 bags per 1/2 acre! She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to repair her home and save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jane’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 91/2 acres of land.
