A loan of $525 helped to buy second hand clothing.

Rokiatou's story

Rokiatou is 30 years old, divorced, and the mother of two children. She lives with her father in a large, traditional extended family in Mancourani II, one of the more populated districts in the city of Sikasso, (in the third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Mrs. Rokaitou, after trying many types of work without much success, began selling second-hand clothing about four years ago. She makes her sales at the main market in Sikasso as well as on foot in Sikasso where she is much in demand by her customers because of the quality of her merchandise. In order to meet the growing demands of her customers, she decided to join the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso, with whom she is on her first individual loan.

With her loan she plans to buy three loads of second hand clothing of varying quality (t-shirts, light clothing, children’s clothing, sheets and, Draps and Body ). She buys her merchandise from wholesalers and them sells it at retail.

She foresees making an average monthly profit of 95,000 FCFA which will be used to increase her working capital, to contribute to family expenses, and to pay the interest on her loan.
