Sang'alo J Group's story

Metrine is a member of Sang'alo J Group, in Bungoma South District. The group, pictured here, is comprised of 11 One Acre Fund farmers, all women. Metrine is standing on the right, with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. The 2013 Long Rains season will be Metrine’s first season with One Acre Fund. She joined this year, in order to access the best input prices and to use her increased profits to send her children to school.

Last year, Metrine harvested three bags of maize on one-half acre of land. She is excited by the prospect of improving her harvest, as a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and to buy a cow. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Sang'alo J Group members will take input loans of ½ acre, each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5.5 acres of land.
