Imani Group's story

Risper is a member of the Imani Group in Kakamega South District. She is pictured with 15 One Acre Fund farmers, 12 women and 3 men. Risper is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for ½ acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Risper first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2010 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Risper joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and use her increased profits to send her children to school.

Risper reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about one bag of maize per 3/4 acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 11 bags per 3/4 acre! She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and perhaps invest in another business. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Risper’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 7.5 acres of land.
