A loan of $650 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Mackays Group's story

Javan’s group is comprised of 10 farmers and is located in Kakamega South District. Javan is pictured amongst the 5 men and 5 women of his group. He is the individual with his hand raised in the photograph.

Javan will receive input loans that will allow him to plant ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize. Javan first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Javan joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for his family and use his increased profits to send his children to school. As a One Acre Fund farmer, Javan had a very good harvest last year. He hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. He plans on using future profits from the harvest to send his children to school and pay debts.

During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Javan’s group will receive 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
