Liangale Group's story

Mary’s group has 13 farmers and is located in Kakamega south District. Mary is pictured on the right of the Liangege Group with her hand raised. Mary is pictured amongst the five men and eight women of her group. She will receive input loans allowing her to plant ½ an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize. Mary joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Mary joined One Acre Fund so that she could have a bumper harvest like her mum.

Mary reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about one bag of maize per ½ acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested six bags per 1/2 acre! She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and perhaps invest in another business. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Mary’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6.5 acres of land.
