Lukusi Group's story

Lukusi is a group of 10 farmers in Bungoma South District represented by Joel. The group has 5 women and 5 men. Joel is on the right of the photo with his hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum. Joel joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2009, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Joel joined One Acre Fund so that he could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and their good trainings.

Joel described his harvest as very good last year, but believes he can have an even better one this year. He hopes that his profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send his children to school and perhaps invest in another business. Joel’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 5 acres of maize and sorghum.
