Mkulima Group's story

Mkulima is a group of 10 farmers in Bungoma South District represented by Getrude. The group has 8 women and 2 men. Getrude is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum will be delivered to her on credit. Getrude is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to use her increased profits to send her children to school and learn good farming techniques. Last year, Getrude harvested 4 bags of maize on 1 acre of land. She is excited to improve her harvest as a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans on using future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and save for the future. During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ an acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Getrude’s group will receive 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
