Bulondo D Group's story

Joan’s group is called "Bulondo D" and has ten farmers, one man and nine women. They live in Bungoma South District in Kenya. Joan is pictured on the right of the group with her hand raised. She will receive a loan to purchase inputs for her farm, sufficient to plant half an acre with sorghum, millet, and maize.

Joan joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains of 2006, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. She joined so that she could access the best input prices, and the best training on farming. She reports that before joining One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about one bag of maize on each half acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012 season, she managed to harvest four bags per half acre! She plans to use future profits from the harvest to send her children to school, and to invest in cows.

During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive half-an-acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Joan’s group will receive a total of 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
