Josie, a 26-year-old married mother of one, lives in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental where she has been planting and harvesting coconuts for sale for over two years, earning 1,700 PHP each month. Josie joined GDMPC in 2011 and is requesting a loan of 5,000 PHP to purchase fertilizer such as manure. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
