A loan of $650 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Baraka Group's story

Baraka is a group of 10 farmers in Bungoma South District represented by Emily. The group has 9 women and 1 man. Emily is on the right of the photo with her hand raised. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet and sorghum. Emily is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and get inputs delivered to her on time.

Emily described her harvest last year as good, but hopes she can have an even better one as a One Acre Fund farmer. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and rent a farm to do more farming. Emily’s group members will each receive input loans of ½ acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total they will receive inputs for 5 acres of maize and sorghum.
