A loan of $400 helped to buy seeds and organic fertilizer for her crops.

Maribel's story

Maribel, age 23, is a responsible single mother. She lives with her son, Marck, and her mother, Felicity. She lives in the house where she was born. Ever since she was a girl, they taught her how to plant and work the land.

She grows corn, her principle and only crop, on land inherited from her mother. As she says, that way you get good income. This is because it is the food that is consumed the most in the region, and it always maintains its price in the market. She gets the most income in September and October. Therefore, she is planning to plant and program the harvest for these months.

She also has two bulls that she uses to plow the land in order to start sowing. “This way I do not pay other people to do it,” she says.

She belongs to the Sarita Colonia communal bank, and this is her third loan with MFP. She is grateful for this opportunity because she will be able to improve her business. She pledges to make her payments. She likes working with her communal bank, where all of the people are responsible and supportive.

Maribel will use the loan to buy seeds and organic fertilizer for her crops.
