Hasila's story

Hasila is a 24-year-old divorced woman, who raises her one son alone. She is an IDP and lives in the Bilasuvar IDP Settlement. Hasila raises cattle and has done this for the last 5 years. Hasila usually buys small calves, raises and fattens them for 5-6 months and then resells them for more profitable price at the livestock bazaar. Her monthly income is 120 AZN and this business is the only source of financial income for her family. Meat is in very high demand in Azerbaijan and people use it in everyday dishes like pilau and dolma. Hasila also keeps milking cows for personal use and for selling to neighbors. She wants to expand her business and improve the living conditions of her family. She applied for a 1500 AZN loan to purchase two cows, one milking cow and fodder.
